Domaine Pavillon de Chavannes
‘This remains one of my absolute favourite Côte de Brouilly and the wine deserves to be better-known.’
John Gilman, A View From The Cellar
This domaine farms a total of 12 acres, of which 7 are parcels averaging 40 years of age and reserved for the Cuvée des Ambassades. The name comes from the fact that this wine has long been–and continues to be–purchased by the Quai d’Orsay for use in certain French embassies around the world. One of the main factors contributing to the success of Pavillon de Chavannes is that its vineyards are among the highest and the steepest in the elevated appellation of the Cote de Brouilly. Winemaking is traditional and simple - with little extraction and no wood influence at all. The 2022 is deep, rich and intense, highlighting the inherent ageability of great Beaujolais.
2021 Côte de Brouilly Cuvée des Ambassades
"Brilliant violet. Expansive, spice-and mineral-accented red fruit and spicecake scents show fine delineation and pick up a suave floral note with air. Juicy, sharply focused and alluringly sweet, offering vibrant raspberry, boysenberry and five-spice powder flavors that deepen slowly through the midpalate. Shows superb energy and finishes seamless and impressively long, with polished and reverberating mineral and floral notes"

"The 2021 Cuvée des Ambassades from Domaine des Chavannes has continued to blossom very nicely since I last tasted it in the spring. The wine shows lovely precision in its complex aromatic constellation of sweet cranberries, red cherries, a lovely base of soil, pigeon, fresh thyme and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused and complex, with a lovely core of vibrant, sappy fruit, fine soil inflection and grip, suave, understated tannins and a long, tangy and complex finish. This is first class Côte de Brouilly! 2023-2045."

2022 Côte de Brouilly Cuvée des Ambassades
“… a beautiful bottle of young Côte de Brouilly. The wine is one of the lower octane versions of the vintage, coming in listed at 12.5 percent octane, but showing off beautifully ripe fruit and gorgeous soil transparency. The bouquet hops from the glass in a blend of cherries, red plums, pomegranate, gamebird, a touch of fresh thyme, bonfire, peonies and a beautifully complex foundation of soil. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and complex, with fine soil signature, a lovely core of fruit, modest tannins and excellent length and grip on the poised and beautifully balanced finish. This has the depth and backend stuffing to age beautifully, but this is one 2022 Cru that will not demand extended time in the cellar before it starts to drink beautifully! 2024-2055."
